Long time no chat! Turns out keeping a monthly newsletter is a LOT of work! Needless to say, the past few months have been extremely chaotic for various reasons and I didn’t have much to update. Alas the year is coming to an end already, so why not one final letter to wrap up the season?
S.I.R. Issue 5 Drops DEC 18!
It’s all coming to an end! The grand 3 vs. 1 motorcycle dueling finale makes its ultimate statement as the beginning of the end. Will love prevail? Or will motorcycles??!! I’m extremely proud of this issue and I hope you all enjoy where Avery and Nico’s journeys have taken them! While there’s still some small surprises left for S.I.R. that’ll be revealed next year, this is otherwise the end, and I’m really glad I got to share this story with you all :)
FELL’S BEST OF 2024
One thing I want to do more of it shoutout the things I love. So I figured I’d do a little wrap up of some of my favourite things I enjoyed this year! Starting with…
BOOK OF THE YEAR
I’ve been following Jason’s journey with FULL TILT for a few years now, but nothing prepares you for holding the gargantuan masterpiece in your hand and basking in its glory. And I truly mean it is GLORIOUS. I love it when comics bleed passion and commit to crazy, off the rails storytelling. And if the 20-page connected spread is anything - FULL TILT is it. The book has such an energy to it that it reminds me of classics such as Strangers in Paradise or Love and Rockets. The underground independent energy that crawls up from the depths to steal your heart. This is my book of the year because I truly believe a book like this is a testament to what makes comics so wonderful - the brute force of an unimpeded vision.
GAME OF THE YEAR
In a year where two of my most beloved franchises that start with “Dragon” released a long-awaited sequel 10 years later, my GOTY goes to…
This game. Oh my god. It blew all my expectations out the water. You’re a builder tasked with fixing up a small desert town and their water crisis. And then things happen! So many things! My gosh, there is so much story! Every day of this 100+ hour journey there was some new sidequest, character moment, main quest, event - there was ALWAYS something to do! The characters were so well written and had so much depth. I laughed. I cried. My jaw dropped. I waged war. I piloted a mecha. I got a space sword. I solved a conspiracy. I befriended a rat princess. Definitely one of the most immersive experiences I’ve had in gaming. 10/10 for the multiple Gundam references.
SONG OF THE YEAR
I discovered Foxes in Fiction late last year, coming across the song “Ontario Gothic” and loving the depressing synth vibes of it all. Then I realized the artist is local and just sings about being depressed in a small town in southern Ontario - and it suddenly clicked why all their songs resonated :’) My absolute favourite of the bunch is Say Yes to Violence - just so deliciously depressing!
SHOW OF THE YEAR
This is self explanatory so here’s a screencap of Caitlyn Kiramman in one of my fave looks of the season.
So…what’s next?!
Following my tradition of putting actual news at the bottom of the newsletter, if you managed to read this far…here are some teasers of things that’ll be revealed in 2025 :)
2025 is clearly the year of handsome lesbians looking left. Happy holidays!
