Happy July! This month’s been super busy for me, and to be honest I’m struggling a little bit to keep up on 5 social medias and a newsletter :’) Do you ever feel like you are doing too much and too little at the same time? So I’m kinda curious, what sort of things would you like to see me talk about on the newsletter? Just updates? Advice? Recommendations? Spicy hot takes?Let me know!
Bengal S.I.R. Variant!
Here’s something that I AM dying to talk about, and that’s this epic S.I.R. variant by Bengal! You can’t have a motorcycle comic without an Akira reference, and Bengal absolutely nailed it!! This is a limited edition Boom! Direct Reserve cover, limited to 250 and only available on the Boom webstore (link below).
S.I.R. Issue 3 solicits out
Time flies once again and S.I.R. Issue 3 is now on preorder from diamond! And this time we’ve got this incredible Shojo variant by Johanna the Mad! Fence was a huge influence for S.I.R., so it’s such an honor to have the artist behind Fence do this stunning cover for us! While Issue 1 FOC has passed, you can still preorder as long as there’s stock left in the warehouse somewhere. And please do!! Preorders are where books go to live or die.
Issue 3 is one of my favorite issues in the series because it’s full of plot revelations and ROMANCE!! This is the big turning point in the story, and really ups the stakes of the motorcycle joust. Also we meet my favorite rider - SIR STORMBIRD! Who arrives full of mysteries of their own…CVR A (Hound) - AUG240105CVR B (The Mad) - AUG240106
Catch me in the wild in August!

Here’s where you can find me around the Toronto area: AUGUST 10 - Wayside Comics Creator Spotlight AUGUST 14 - Silver Snail S.I.R. Signing AUGUST 17 - Heroes World S.I.R. Signing AUGUST 21 - Knowhere Comics S.I.R. SigningAfter that I have a couple more small conventions then I hope to retire to my bed and watch Arcane Season 2.
Move over, Dead Girl Winter. It’s time for Dead Girl WINNER.
In 2023 my wonderful friends Anas Abdulhak, Dennis Menheere, DC Hopkins and Michele Abounader released a gorgeous one-shot called Etheres. It’s a groundbreaking, poetic journey of a lost soul wandering the liminal space of Etheres, trying to find a place to belong after their passing. It’s one of my absolute favorite comics of the past few years and I was STOKED to see it nominated for a Ringo Award for Best-Single Issue!
For a long time I’ve felt the direct market comics industry is in a toxic relationship with the status quo. It has entrenched itself so hard in it’s own fading safety net, and as a result grown allergic to new voices, new visions, and any attempts to move the needle isn’t given - it’s fought for.
Which is why I think it’s so important to put our votes, and our dollars, towards giving immensely talented new creators and stories a chance. We NEED more stories like these from creators like them. If you’re a comics pro, I would love if you would consider voting for it!
